The Appeal
The TR4-IRS looked much like its predecessor, but those three letters were the giveaway to the changes that lay beneath. Independent Rear Suspension finally gave Triumph’s pretty convertible the handling to match the go from its Standard-Triumph 2.0-litre engine.
Most cars went to the USA, including this one. It spent its life in the sunny, dry Indiana climate before returning to the UK 15 years ago, according to the seller. On arrival, he tells us that he began a sympathetic restoration. We are told that the car needed little aside from a repaint and interior retrim. The focus was on originality and the car retains its previous blue paint, white roof and black interior with white piping. It is now fitted with TR6 deep dish alloys with chrome embellishers, which add extra poise to the stance.
The vendor tells us that the car runs very well. We know how popular the TR4-IRS is with collectors - here is a pretty example that is ready to enjoy.
