The Appeal
The MGC was intended to take centre stage as a replacement for the much-lauded Austin-Healey 3000. The brief is nice and straightforward; stuff a six-pot inside the MGB, their most ubiquitous and bestselling British sports car. It was an easy pitch, and sales started strong...only for the reviews to come in.
While it was a perfectly capable roadster, the chaps at BMC had managed to spectacularly spoil the launch by providing incorrect advisory tyre pressures. It sadly meant that the potent little roadster was unable to garner the audience it deserved. On the upside, it's now a rare, desirable classic that enthusiasts have quickly begun to realise is well worthy of their attention.
This particular example offers the appeal of long-term family ownership, having been originally purchased new by the seller's father-in-law in 1968 before passing to the current owner in 2012. Since the acquisition, the current owner has invested approximately £8,000 in improvements and ensuring reliable running. The resulting car is a fine example that's ready and waiting for its lucky new owner.
