The appeal
The Jaguar 240 represents the final evolution of the famous MK2 saloon. More streamlined and lighter than its predecessors, it notably features a direct-port cylinder head derived from that of the E-Type. One of the last cars of this type to roll off the production lines in Coventry, this example, delivered in March 1969, features a particularly interesting specification, with right-hand drive, a four-speed manual gearbox with a Laycock overdrive and chrome-plated wire-spoke wheels.
The documentation file is one of the car’s main attractions. Preserved over the years, it includes, in particular, the original Jaguar service record signed by the selling dealer, the original owner’s handbook and the service manual. Also included are a British Leyland directory of Jaguar dealerships in the United Kingdom, a Kenneth Ball Autobooks workshop manual, and a collection of invoices and service records.
An application for a certificate of authenticity from the Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust is currently being processed. This will be provided to the buyer and will confirm the car’s original numbers and factory specification.
