The Appeal
The Series IIA is widely regarded as the sweet spot of Series Land Rover production, combining the rugged simplicity of the Series I with the refinements that would carry through to the Series III. The 88-inch short-wheelbase pickup is perhaps the most iconic configuration of them all, and this 1970 example carries a particularly distinctive history, having served as the 'hero vehicle' in the 2021 film Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway.
It was used on location in the Lake District for filming, sharing screen time with the likes of James Corden, Margot Robbie, Rose Byrne and Domhnall Gleeson. In preparation for filming, the Land Rover was entrusted to a specialist who carried out a repaint, interior retrim and mechanical work including new tyres to ensure it was fully prepared for filming. Powered by the 1990 Ford Transit 2.5 Di engine producing 70 BHP mated to four-speed gearbox with overdrive, it is reported to be a capable and well-sorted driver.
