The Appeal
The original 3L Rover was the epitome of upright, statesmanlike gentility. The P5B was all that, but with the Sixties in full Swing, appropriately enough, it added a healthy dash of transatlantic V8-powered verve to spice things up.
These Buick-engined cars represent a high-water mark of over-engineered, British-built saloons, and demand remains strong. The vendor of this lovely 1970s dark blue example spent a long time finding one and tells us that he bought the best available. Looking across the well-presented bodywork, paintwork and lightly patinated cream leather interior, it is hard not to agree.
The car has had just seven keepers in its 55 years and is said to be standard and run and drive very well. Recent work has included servicing, new choke cables and replacement headlight bowls.
With a lovely burble that will herald its arrival and a cabin beloved of Prime Ministers, the P5B is a very rewarding classic. This one looks in great shape.
