The Appeal
For many, the Norton Commando conjures up images of the quintessential British motorcycle. Produced over a ten-year period, it was based around an updated version of the classic overhead-valve parallel-twin engine, yet, in contrast to its predecessors, was offered in a wide range of models, including scramblers, roadsters and the Easy Rider-inspired Hi Rider, with 'ape-hanger' handlebars, 'banana seat' and 'sissy bar'.
This 1972 Commando started life as a 750 Roadster and was converted to a metallic blue Hi Rider upon its arrival in the USA as a new bike. It is believed to have been re-imported from the USA around 2020 and stored in a private collection; the seller purchased it in July 2025 as a complete, running motorcycle.
The seller states that the bike has been completely restored; its paintwork, stainless steel wheels and stainless exhaust system present very well, and it benefits from new tires. Many parts have been re-chromed or replaced; the seat has a new cover, and the original fiberglass fuel tank has been replaced with steel.
The speedometer and tachometer have also been restored, with the original mileage retained. The switches have also been overhauled, and a new wiring harness fitted.
Described by the seller as "just like new", this 'bike represents a rare opportunity to acquire an extensively restored example of a genuine Hi Rider Norton Commando. Highly evocative, this outstanding motorcycle not only represents the Easy Rider era but is also ready to be enjoyed on the road.
