Hailed as "the motorcycle that saved BMW", bikers owe a lot to the R90S. BMW hired a designer named Hans Muth to create a flagship bike for their new "/6" series. This 1975 example has been given a distinctive second chapter, having been sent to Down and Out Motorcycles, a well-regarded custom specialist, who transformed it from a Café Racer into a purposeful Scrambler. With Down and Out now working exclusively on modern Triumphs, this conversion is effectively unrepeatable.

Down & Out Motorcycles is a Rotherham-based custom motorcycle workshop founded in September 2015 by Shaun Walker and others, quickly becoming one of the best-known names in the modified bike scene. The company built its reputation on BMW R80 and R100 conversions featuring a signature look:  fat, aggressive front tyres inspired by chopper builds, before shifting focus to Triumphs, which now make up the bulk of its builds and parts sales. Known for doing everything in-house, including welding, fabrication, and wiring, the team has completed around 130 bikes to date and typically has up to 20 projects underway at once. High-profile collaborations include commissions from Yamaha, Triumph, and BMW, and the brand has built a strong following (roughly 80,000 Instagram followers) through a fast, consistent output of headline-grabbing custom builds.
