The Appeal
The Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow redefined the marque for a new era, pairing traditional craftsmanship with modern monocoque construction and self-levelling suspension. It remains one of the most recognisable and rewarding ways to experience classic Rolls-Royce motoring.
This 1975 example carries a particularly distinguished provenance. Its first registered keeper was Sir Freddie Laker, the pioneering aviation entrepreneur behind Laker Airways. Originally purchased from H.R. Owen’s Berkeley Square Rolls-Royce and bearing the serial number FAL 1, the car was used by Sir Freddie for a considerable period, and many photographs of him with the car and his aircraft can be found online. The original paperwork from this era remains in the file.
Beyond its celebrity history, this Silver Shadow has benefited from meaningful recent attention. A full respray was completed within the past year, and the interior leather has been restored. Electronic ignition has been fitted, and the chrome has been polished. It has been periodically maintained by Bowling Ryan Engineering, Rolls-Royce and Bentley specialists in the North West, with many invoices documenting the work. The vendor notes that the wooden dashboard requires re-veneering, but the door cappings and all dials are reported to be in good order. Holding a voluntary advisory-free MOT until April 2027, this is a Silver Shadow with genuine provenance and recent cosmetic investment, suited to shows or regular enjoyment.
