The Appeal
The Triumph Spitfire remains one of the quintessential small British sports cars of the 1960s and 1970s, combining pretty Michelotti styling with simple mechanicals, rear-wheel drive and the open-air character that made the breed so popular. Conceived as an accessible two-seat roadster, it offered much of the enjoyment of more expensive sports cars in a compact, affordable and easy-to-maintain package.
This 1975 Spitfire 1500 was acquired by the seller in February 2026 with a gearbox issue. As is not unusual with these cars, the gearbox was removed, stripped and overhauled by a specialist before being refitted. The engine has also been serviced, with the tappet clearances checked and the carburettors re-balanced.
Finished in bold Mimosa Yellow, a colour particularly well suited to the Spitfire’s cheerful 1970s character, this example is now ready to be enjoyed once again. With its 1.5-litre engine, compact proportions and simple convertible layout, it should make an excellent companion for weekend drives, local shows and relaxed summer touring.
