The Appeal

The Simca 1000 and its later Rallye format were originally a Fiat design - and in another universe may well have ended up being badged as a progression for the legendary Fiat 500. Simca's President-director general, Henri Pigozzi, was very close friends with the top brass at Fiat, and he managed to negotiate this - a cute, traditional three-box car with a tiny wheelbase - for his own company.

The Simca 1000 was a huge hit, and rightfully so - it was inexpensive but surprisingly innovative for its time, and drivers were eager to take advantage of a good deal at a time when purse strings were tight. By 1970, the car was seeing plenty of adoptions for Motorsport, and Simca replied to the demand with the Rallye - with disk brakes, upgraded mechanics and a reorganised engine bay that made for potent, loud and capable little motorsport offering.

This bright orange example is particularly spirited. Upgraded with a 1,600cc powerplant, and fitted with the rally essentials of a roll-bar and bucket seats, it's recently undergone extensive restoration and is now ready and waiting to exhilarate its lucky new owner. Pure racing pedigree!
