The Appeal
In the 60s through to the 1980s, Fiat specialised in unobtrusive three box saloons that enabled high-ranking businessmen and perhaps those connected to more nefarious activities to get around largely unnoticed. The 132 came at the tail end of that time and traced its lineage back to the 125 of the mid 60s. But the age of its underpinnings was no hindrance, particularly when it involved agile RWD and Lampredi’s brilliant 4cyl, twin cam powerplant.
Today these big saloons are exceptionally rare, especially cars are original, unmolested and preserved as this 1978 example. Painted attractive dark blue with a lovely tan fabric interior, it is fitted with the revvy 1.6L 100bhp engine mated to a slick 5spd box.
We’re told that the vendor acquired the car around six years ago, since when it has been part of his Italian car collection. The state of preservation is likely due to it having lived on Malta until he bought it. It has received extensive mechanical work since then, including servicing, brake work, carburettor rebuilt and repairs to coolant system. The timing belt was also replaced. It has been used sparingly since this work was completed. Opportunities to acquire these well-built Fiat saloons are very rare, but well worth seeking out.
