The final Karmann convertible iteration of the Beetle rolled out of the Osnabrück plant in 1980, marking the end of a much-beloved era of German's legendary people's car - and perhaps the very earliest signs that the Beetle's time on the market, after 42 years, was beginning to look a lot closer to ending.
At over 330,000 sold, the Karmann Convertible was an icon in its own right. These soft-top bugs were practically destined for success in the sunnier regions of the USA and the Mediterranean, and were perhaps the greatest example of that free-spirited, life-on-the-open-road lifestyle that the bug had become so known for.
Nowadays, a fine example like this one - from the final full year of production in 1979 - is bound to attract attention. Is it any wonder? With this car's handsome silver paintwork and highly original condition, it's a great ambassador for one of the best-loved variants of the Beetle - and a fabulous car for anybody wishing to recapture one of the industry's greatest legends during its golden age. image.png3.99 MB
