The Appeal
The Gamma can justifiably lay claim to being one of the last Lancias to be led by the firm’s highly individual, fresh-thinking approach to engineering. From the exquisite Pininfarina lines, particularly on the Coupe as here, to the sumptuous interior and clever flat four engines, these cars made BMWs and Audis seem dull and pedestrian.
The one you want is the beautiful two-door coupe with the 2.5L version of that ‘Boxer’ engine. First registered in Italy in 1981, this car remained there until 2024 when it was re-registered in the Netherlands. Finished in classic silver with a magnificent blue velour cabin, the seats retaining their correct ‘L’ trim, this manual gearbox car has covered a mere 73,916 kms from new.
We’re told that the car has been well-maintained and carries a current APK technical inspection certification to January 2027. This is a Gamma with the right specification, condition and provenance to appeal to true enthusiasts.
The vendor says:
“Finding a solid, unrestored, rust-free Gamma is extremely difficult. And when you do encounter one in Italy, it is almost always the smaller 2.0L version. This example, however, is the exception. Originally purchased new by a wealthy Italian who wanted the finest specification available, it remained in Italy until 2024 and was regularly driven—yet still shows only 73,885 km from new. After decades of gentle use, the ageing owner decided it was time to let the car go. One of our enthusiastic clients encountered it during a holiday under the Italian sun—negotiations were swift, warm, and sealed with sun-tanned handshakes.
“The car has since been registered in the Netherlands and mechanically sorted to meet our road standards. As is often the case with Italian classics that have basked for years in warm Mediterranean light, the paint shows signs of sun exposure. Expect a wonderfully original and unspoiled interior, excellent mechanical condition, and the coveted 2.5L boxer with manual gearbox—a combination that transforms the Gamma into a genuinely engaging and rare driver's car.”

The vendor says:
“A true Pininfarina masterpiece—elegant, unmistakable, and unlike anything else of its era. Even today, the Lancia Gamma Coupé is widely praised for its clean, sculptural design. Had the same car worn a BMW badge, showrooms would have been overflowing. Instead, it proudly carried the Lancia emblem—already under Fiat ownership at the time—and became one of the most distinctive grand tourers of the early 1980s.
“Beneath its sleek exterior, the Gamma hid engineering far ahead of its time. To keep the centre of gravity as low as possible, Lancia equipped the model with a flat-four boxer engine, mounted low in the chassis to enhance handling balance. Most Gammas were delivered with the 2.0L engine, due to Italy’s steep taxation on engines over 2000 cc. As a result, the 2.5L variant was ordered only by buyers who wanted the very best—and were willing to pay for it. Today, these 2.5L models are the most sought-after and collectible, offering noticeably stronger performance and smoother drivability.
“A folder of service and maintenance invoices accompanies the vehicle.”
