The Appeal
To mark the end of 18 years, four months and 21 days of MGB production, a batch of 1,000 final ‘LE’ cars received an elevated specification. Attractive Bronze metallic paintwork, gold decals, a front spoiler, and a choice of alloy or wire wheels make these rare cars easy to spot today.
420 roadsters were built, and this 1981 car is one of only 212 fitted with the polished GKN alloys originally designed for the Triumph Stag. It is also notable for being the 270th-to-last roadster to leave the line, likely built in the final month of production. It remains in nicely preserved condition, with just a few paintwork details to note in the photos. The usual B-check areas are present, as are the LE special features and decals.
Inside, the cabin has been retrimmed in black leather; otherwise, it appears standard. It also has a smart Mountney wheel.
The vendor acquired the car in 2022 and says he has always garaged it with a cover. Recent work includes a new clutch with master cylinder, electronic distributor, upgraded coolant hoses, and a new battery. We are told the car runs and drives well with no issues, and everything works correctly. A large history file accompanies the car.
Whether you’re here for the LE’s rarity and provenance or because you just like a good-looking, well-presented MGB, this car scores.
The vendor says:
“Mechanically excellent with many years of service documentation. Starts without any issues and runs smoothly.. Factory standard. A pleasure to drive. Iconic. A real head turner.”
