The Appeal
It’s easy to understand why TVR switched to focusing on the 350i when this car was built in 1984. With its grunty 190bhp Rover V8 and light 1,150kg weight, Oliver Winterbottom’s wedgy convertible had few obvious rivals. While the car was a hit by TVR standards, just 839 were built.
This Ocean Haze metallic car is a late ‘Series 1’ model, first registered in February 1984. It shows 20,500 miles on the odometer, which appears to be supported by a large number of older MOTs on file, although we can’t verify it. It presents very well, helped by a 2021 recommissioning after 15 years in storage. That work included a new hood, replacement carpets, full service, wheel refurbishment and attention to coolant system and brakes. The car has only covered 1,000 miles since. Recent work has included a new steering rack, clutch and battery. The brake callipers have also been refurbished.
Across the blue paintwork, roof and interior, this is a really nicely presented car. Just as when it was new, no classic quite matches the distinctive 350i’s analogue feel, decent power and sheer rarity. This is a good example of an increasingly appreciated British roadster.
