The Appeal
Yamaha's RD500LC remains one of the most coveted motorcycles of the 1980s. With its water-cooled 492cc V4 two-stroke engine mirroring the twin-crank architecture of Kenny Roberts' factory Grand Prix machines, it brought genuine race-replica performance to the road in a way few manufacturers had dared before. The Marlboro-liveried examples, echoing Yamaha's factory GP team colours, are among the most visually striking of all.
This particular RD500LC is a matching-numbers machine, kept in the hands of an engineer owner between October 2014 and May 2026. During that time, it was subjected to thorough mechanical work, with invoices from late 2014 and early 2015 documenting the renewal of wheel bearings, steering bearings, swing arm bearings, brake master cylinder rebuild kits, calliper piston kits, brake discs, brake pads, wheel seals, indicator lamps, exhaust gaskets, and numerous other components.
