The Appeal
The first-generation Suzuki Swift GTi is one of the most entertaining pocket rockets of the late 1980s. Tipping the scales at under 800kg and producing around 100bhp from its rev-happy 1.3-litre twin-cam 16-valve engine, it delivered a driving experience that belied its modest dimensions; nimble, eager, and genuinely quick for its class. With four-wheel disc brakes and independent suspension all round, it punched well above its weight. Today, surviving examples are increasingly scarce across European roads.
This 1989 Spanish-market example appears to have benefited from a kinder climate. The vendor reports the bodywork is in good order, having been recently polished, with only minor scratches noted on the left-side door. Inside, the vendor states the interior shows no major wear and tear, with seats described as being in great condition. Reportedly benefiting from recent cambelt and water pump changes, this Swift presents an increasingly rare opportunity to acquire one of the 1980s' most characterful superminis in presentable condition.
