The Appeal
Few open-top sports cars have enjoyed a production run as long—or as instantly recognizable—as the Alfa Romeo Spider. Introduced in the 1960s and styled by Pininfarina, it blended elegant Italian design with a spirited twin-cam engine, rear-wheel drive, and the simple joys of open-top motoring. Over the decades, it evolved carefully rather than drastically, keeping much of the charm and finesse that made the original such an enduring classic.
By 1990, the Spider was in the later stages of its long production life, still retaining the key ingredients that had made the model so long-lasting: Pininfarina styling, twin-cam power, rear-wheel drive, and a straightforward open two-seat layout. This example features the more assertive black bumper and rear spoiler treatment associated with the later Series 3 “Aerodinamica” cars, giving it a distinctly 1980s interpretation of the classic Spider shape.
This left-hand-drive example is finished in classic Rosso Alfa and was resprayed in 2022, when additional bodywork and underside repairs were also carried out. Recorded with four previous UK keepers, it has been maintained by the same garage for the last 11 years, adding a reassuring sense of continuity to its more recent history. Praised by the seller for its everyday usability and unmistakably Italian styling, it should make a charming companion for fair-weather drives, shows, and relaxed summer tours.
