The Appeal
The W124 Coupé could well summate Mercedes-Benz' legendary policy of over-engineering. This was an era when Mercedes-Benz were renowned for its rock-solid build quality, and with its pillarless two-door design and elegant silhouette, it's a particularly handsome coupe, loaded with nostalgic callbacks to the golden age of the executive car as much as it is pure 90s personality.
This particular example has been in the same family's care for 22 years, having been purchased in 2004. Based in London but stored since the introduction of ULEZ in Petworth to keep it dry and protected from the elements, it has been driven recreationally and serviced carefully using genuine Mercedes-Benz parts by a specialist garage in south-west London.
Rust has been proactively addressed over the years, with bodywork repairs and preventative treatment carried out as needed. A Mercedes specialist fitted a new engine wiring loom in 2017. The alloy wheels have been recently skimmed and repainted, and the tyres have covered fewer than 1,000 miles. With an MOT valid until April 2027, it's a solid ambassador to a much-loved car that we think will garner plenty of interest at auction.

The owners say:
“This beautiful car is in great condition for its age and has taken us dependably and comfortably for many years on long trips and short errands. It’s a steady and quiet ride, in stop/start traffic or on the motorway, and is sure-footed and safe in hard rain.
Despite the cliche, we are genuinely reluctant to sell but when ULEZ was introduced in London it stopped making sense to use it as a day-to-day car. In 2022 we moved it to storage in Petworth to keep it dry and safe, driving it as often as possible recreationally, but now it needs a new home.
