The Appeal
The Porsche 968 took that front-engined, rear-wheel-drive transaxle lineage that began with the 924, and stepped it up into an even more refined, capable machine. Boasting a sophisticated variocam engine and the balance of a true driver's car, the 968 Coupé has steadily gained recognition among Porsche enthusiasts as a rewarding and increasingly collectable machine - one that stands apart from its 928 and 944 siblings.
These are cars that naturally appeal to deep-dive enthusiasts, and we know that they value specification when narrowing down their search. This car's colour scheme and rare air conditioning elevates it above alternatives. Then there's the condition and maintenance...
It has been in the hands of its current owner since 2010, during which time it has been well maintained and stored in a heated garage. At the outset of the current ownership, extensive work was undertaken to establish a thorough engineering baseline, and since then all fluids, belts, pulleys and rollers have been replaced twice - most recently just 500 miles ago.
The bodywork has been kept to a high standard, aided by Waxoyl treatment to the internal cavities and underside carried out early in the current ownership. The vendor describes the light grey interior as showing little wear for a car now over 30 years old, with the only noted blemish being slight wear to the piping on the driver's seat bolster. The air conditioning system was fitted early in the car's life, with 1997 invoices from AFN for its maintenance. In 2021, the system received a replacement condenser radiator and the original compressor was inspected & refitted,. The system was fully charged and pressure tested. The vendor tells us that it continues to work very efficiently.
It's a fine example of a truly evolved sports car, and we're sure it'll attract plenty of interest at auction. p-968-01.jpg752.01 KB
