The Appeal
In 1991, sixteen years after its introduction, the Jaguar XJS received its most significant update. Black tinted rear strip lights and body-colored, reprofiled bumpers were the biggest exterior changes, while inside saw a more traditional instrument cluster. The convertible models now featured 2+2 seating, and an all-new, 4.0-liter six-cylinder engine became available. Two years later, outboard rear disc brakes replaced the original inboard brakes, while in 1994 the straight-six engine became the AJ16, with coil-on-plug ignition.
The final XJS model was the Celebration, made to celebrate the 60th year of Jaguar Cars, and equipped with diamond-turned wheels, Jaguar-embossed seats and a wooden steering wheel. This 1994 Celebration convertible is finished in black, with a light gray leather interior. The exterior presents extremely well, with only a light scratch on the right front fender reported by the seller. The leather is very presentable, with only some light creases, commensurate with age, and one small tear to a rear headrest reported.
The underside is described as solid and clean. In August 2025, more than £2,000 was spent on the car to repair and correct faults. The seller acquired the car in September 2025, and has stored it outside under a cover since then. The previous owner had the car for 12 years, during which time it was kept in a carport.
The seller says, “This car is super smooth, comfortable and a reliable cruiser – simply a lovely thing to waft around in. I’ve never owned a car that gets so much attention and admiration”. With its straight-six engine, unusual black exterior and history of being well-cared for, this convertible XJS will be a pleasure to drive and to own.
