The Appeal
After practically inventing the super saloon with the 3.8L Mk2, Jaguar had flirted with the idea of rejuvenating it through the 80s. But it was only with the X300 XJR, developed with help from TWR, that the potential was finally fulfilled. Supercharging the durable AJ16 4L straight six delivered a power hike to 322bhp. All channelled through the rear wheels.
Like the Mk2, the X300 XJR is a proper gentleman’s express. The extensive wood and leather, and those classic XJ lines, may tempt the idea that it is more gentleman’s club than express, but once the throttle is depressed fully, there is no doubt. These rare cars are now well-regarded and increasingly collectible.
This 1995 car is finished in the eye-catching Turquoise launch color, which was only available for that year. It is factory standard, retaining the distinctive five-spoke wheels and in generally very presentable condition. The bodywork and interior show a few points, but this car presents as a tidy and very usable early example of Jaguar’s super saloon. The lengthy state inspection to July 2026 reinforces the point and contains no structural advisories.
