The Appeal

In the 1960s, enthusiasts knew that three simple letters turned a Mk2 3.8 from a solicitor’s suburban runaround into something altogether more engaging: MOD. Standing for ‘Manual Overdrive’ they signified that the car junked the sedate auto in favour of a sporting gearbox.

Spool forward 30 years and there was no longer any shorthand to describe this car: a manual-gearbox X300 XJR. That is likely because it is so exceptionally rare: just 102 cars were built with its five-speed box. And yet the difference between it and the standard auto XJR is exactly the same: it creates the M5-beater Jaguar intended.

One of three cars finished in stand-out Flamenco Red metallic and a very early build, this car has been both enjoyed and properly maintained by its five keepers. That very durable engine is capable of high mileages, but it welcomes regular servicing, which it has clearly had here. There are 28 service stamps through the years, all by Jaguar main dealers. It was most recently attended to in January 2025 when the servicing work was accompanied by bodywork repairs and minor fettling.

There are some minor points to note to the bodywork, which look light for a X300 of this era. They could be lived with or gradually improved as you enjoy this car. The mechanical and bodywork condition is underlined by the long, advisory-free MOT to January 2026.

Oatmeal leather interior is very well kept for age and mileage with no rips or tears

Headlining, a common X300 check area, is in good condition
Black carpets in good order with protective branded factory mats as shown with light staining
Retains its original factory stereo with CD multichanger in boot
Dark wood veneers across interior are very well kept and appear not to be cracked
