The Appeal
The joy of this highly preserved, one-keeper E34 is that it appeals firmly to the head and the heart. For the former, there’s the practical estate car layout, the luxury Ultramarine blue leather interior and that this is a E34, one of BMW’s greatest saloons. All that is before you take in the vast array of invoices, receipts, handbooks and MOTs that constitute its massive history file.
For the heart, things start and arguably finish with the 220bhp 3L M60 V8 beneath the bonnet. Capable of 60 in well under 6secs from standard, this is a junior M5 without the shouty looks. This is an executive car with the heart of something altogether more sporting.
This E34 is likely amongst the last registered and must be one of the best preserved. That is a testament to its fastidious keeper, who has managed to keep it looking like a car at least half its age. You can see why by checking the history file - whatever has needed attended to, has quickly been attended to. All work has been by BMW main dealers, well into the car’s life, and then by the same independent specialists. It was last serviced 1,000 miles ago. The MOT runs to April.
The 530i is a rarity and we haven’t seen one this good for a very long time. Whether you buy it to enjoy as a classic family wagon or to as an aspiring modern classic, this is a purchase that is both sensible and emotionally appealing.

“The car drives extremely smoothly with plenty of power when needed by its V8 engine. There are no untoward knocks or noises noticed. The brakes stop the car well. It really is a great car, especially on the motorway where you do not feel anything. All Michelin tyres have plenty of tread.
“This is a unique example of the V8 engine E34 in its Touring guise. It’s a genuine 1 owner example with a very low mileage of 54,800 miles. And the colour combination is extremely rare. The interior is a fabulous place to be. It also has the full BMW tool kit, full towing hook and jacks, as well as the bmw roof racks. Cars like this with a full service history just do not come up often at all.”
