The Appeal
Peugeot’s 406 brought something distinctively French to the 90sm fleet car market. Crisp Pininfarina styling combined with a decent range of engines and, above all, supreme comfort and proved a big hit with Britain’s army of motorway-ploughing sales people.
Despite all that, surprisingly few survive, so we welcome the arrival of this 1997 car. Finished in metallic grey with plush GLX spec, it is a petrol 2L car with an auto box that leans into the 406’s relaxed vibe. The car has covered just 50,000 miles, reportedly in the hands of the same family from new, and is pleasingly well kept.
We’re told that the car was extensively recommissioned in 2024, including work to the brakes, new tyres, replacement engine filters and new cambelt. This is supported by the MOT history, which shows a clean test valid to August 2026.
This is a rare and really tidy and usable ‘unexceptional classic’ that would fit right in at the 2026 FOTU show.
The vendor says:
“The vehicle still shines like it did when new, it had been garaged all its life until this past year. It rides exceptionally well, as it did when new. Since recommissioning it drives as it always did and attracts interest. It has just clocked over 50k miles and is driven weekly.”
