The Appeal
Launched in 1959, the original Mini remains one of the most important small cars ever produced. Sir Alec Issigonis’ clever packaging, transverse engine layout and front-wheel-drive configuration created a template that reshaped compact car design, while the Mini’s character, affordability and competition success helped secure its place as a British motoring icon.
By the late 1990s, the classic Mini was nearing the end of its long production life, and Rover marked the period with a number of special editions. Among the most distinctive was the Paul Smith Edition, created in collaboration with the celebrated British designer and limited to 1,800 examples worldwide. In standard form, the model featured deep blue paintwork, a gold enamel bonnet badge and discreet green detailing in the engine bay and glovebox.
This example has taken that green accent theme much further, having been resprayed in Bentley Apple Green. It also features the desirable full-length folding fabric sunroof, adding to its character and making it especially well suited to fair-weather use. With fewer than 38,000 miles recorded from new, it presents as a notably individual take on one of the best-known late classic Mini special editions.
As a Paul Smith Edition with a bold colour scheme, low indicated mileage and open-roof specification, this Mini should appeal to an enthusiast seeking something more distinctive than a standard late Rover Mini. Compact, characterful and instantly recognisable, it should prove an enjoyable companion for weekend drives, shows and Mini gatherings.
Vendors comments:
"This Mini gets so much attention! The colour looks superb, and although it is a deviation from the ‘Paul Smith blue’, it makes this a unique Mini. I am only selling as storage is becoming a problem – I feel I am going to regret selling it!"
