The Appeal
The second-generation Land Rover Discovery built on the original model’s blend of genuine off-road ability and family practicality, while bringing a more refined cabin, improved road manners and increasingly sophisticated equipment. Beneath the familiar stepped-roof silhouette remained a separate chassis and serious four-wheel-drive hardware, preserving much of the rugged character that had made the Discovery such a versatile all-rounder.
This 2003 example is powered by the 4.0-litre V8 and four-speed automatic transmission, giving it a distinctly different character from the more commonly encountered diesel versions. Its seven-seat configuration and Harman/Kardon audio system provide the comfort expected of a well-specified Discovery, while the seller has taken the car considerably further in another direction.
Purchased in January 2023, it was subsequently transformed into an overland-focused build using a substantial collection of Terrafirma and other specialist equipment. Upgrades include a two-inch lift, heavy-duty springs, air-suspension conversion, strengthened steering arms, extended brake hoses, steel front and rear bumpers, a snorkel, a full-length Front Runner roof rack, all-terrain tyres and matching black steel wheels.
