The Appeal
Launched in 2002 as the successor to the W208, the second-generation Mercedes- Benz CLK carried the W209 designation. The Cabriolet arrived soon afterwards,
combining the coupé’s four-seat practicality with a fully powered fabric roof. Designed as a refined, compact Mercedes for effortless long-distance touring, it placed comfort and everyday usability ahead of outright sporting intent.
Across its production run, the W209 was available with an extensive choice of engines, ranging from four-cylinder petrol and diesel units to smooth V6 petrols and, at the top of the range, powerful V8s. This one has the lower-powered 2.4 litre version of Mercedes’s acclaimed M112 V6 engine, developing 170bhp and delivering extremely smoother power delivery. This car comes from the vendor’s collection of nineties and 2000s modern classics. But, due to some imminent and unexpected life changes, he’s downsizing the fleet, so keep an eye out for other cars of a similar clk on Car&Classic over the coming weeks.
The CLK is presented in very smart condition throughout, painted in unusual Diamond Silver Metallic (much rarer than the more common Brilliant Silver), with no evidence of ever having required any welding; straight, clean panels and a smart grey and charcoal leather interior. It has 10 stamps in the service book backing up its relatively low mileage.
A family-friendly four-seat convertible that would have been a very expensive car when new, it’s now a brilliant opportunity to get your hands on a sleek, stylish and handsome boulevard cruiser.
