The Appeal
The XL883R Roadster arrived in 2002, 16 years after the Sportster first hit showrooms. It cleverly evolved Harley’s stylish, simple, analogue and thoroughly reliable cruiser into a tribute to the firm’s XR750 flat track racers, giving the bike its ‘Racester’ nickname. The new bike featured dual front discs, taller suspension and dirt track handlebars. These highly customisable bikes make a typically wonderful sound and are favourites of retro-themed collections.
This launch-year example wasn’t registered until 2006 because it spent its first four years on display in a Harley showroom. That likely explains the choice of the iconic Racing Orange finish and the extremely low mileage of just 1,728 miles. With its peanut tank and retro decals, it is in remarkable condition, arguably worthy of a museum or discerning collection.
The current keeper bought it in 2020 and has kept the mileage down by limiting rides to dry weather. We’re told that it is in very good condition, and everything works correctly. Stylish, very well kept and as close to brand new as it’s probably possible to get, this bike also comes with the added advantage of a long MOT.
The vendor says:
“Excellent condition, very comfortable, lovely bright orange colour.”
