The Appeal
Here’s what might have been. The second-generation 9-5 channelled the ideas and style of the Aero-X concept and promised much, but was launched amid the chaos of Saab’s implosion. Just 11,280 were sold worldwide, with only 1,300 or so arriving in the UK. Just 47 of these top-specification Aero Turbo 6 XWDs are believed to still be road-registered here.
Looking at this big, stylish executive express it is you have to wonder why GM baulked. Finished in Diamond Silver metallic, it is a seriously good-looking car, a sleek alternative to boxy German rivals. Inside, it is spacious and equipped with hugely comfortable black leather seats. This car has the performance to match too, running the turbocharged 2.8L 300bhp V6 mated to the surefooted ‘XWD’ All Wheel Drive system.
The vendor is only the third keeper and tells us that the previous one owned it for most of its life. It has been very well maintained with a run of 13 service stamps to 2023. The MOT runs to February 2027 - there was an advisory but we’re told it has been rectified.
