The Appeal
The BMW 1M is one of the most celebrated modern M cars. With only 450 examples officially sold in the UK, it's also a much-demanded luxury. Powered by a twin-turbocharged N54 straight-six - which was treated to plenty of changes included a lightened flywheel - it was a deeply impressive, capable car that was loaded with charisma and character, that felt more driver-focused than anything the house of Bavaria had put out in years. To this day, it's lauded as one of the marque's most willing, eager and dynamic sports coupes.
It was also voted as Richard Hammond's 'Car of the year' in 2011 for Top Gear Magazine, and in Top Gear Series 32 Episode 5, it was crowned the best of BMW's M Division cars.
If the M-Division makes dream cars, it's inarguable that the 1M is one of the most evolved. While many M3 and M5s are defined by what's under the bonnet, the 1M is dominated by its dynamics and character. That tight-handling, fully evolved chassis and respectable performance makes for a car that immediately reacts to the driver's input, taking it off like a real pocket-rocket.
That revised straight-six offers 335 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque, paired to a revised, smooth-gliding and impressively lightened 6-speed manual transmission. Weighing 1,495 kg, the entire machine manages to achieve a very respectable 0-60 mph in 4.7 seconds - all of which felt like a much purer, analogue feeling machine.
This example has been in its current ownership since 2019, having been purchased from specialist dealer Millennium Heroes. The vendor states, he chose this BMW 1M from the dealer due to it's 'low mileage, ownership history and condition'. Only ever serviced by main dealers, and having racked up a very respectable low mileage, it's a fine example of a modern classic that's bound to impress its lucky new keeper. image.png1.47 MB
