The Appeal
The Lodola - ‘Lark in Italian - was the last bike designed by Carlo Guzzi, so it has a special place in enthusiasts’ hearts. It was built for the home market, intended as a more powerful, long-distance ‘Gran Turismo’ bike. What set Guzzi apart from its competitors was sophisticated engineering, including rear shock absorbers on the Lodola, and evocative styling influenced by Guzzi’s in-house wind tunnel.
This 1960 bike displays all those characteristics. It looks very original and unmodified, retaining its factory decals, fittings and a period Giuliani leather seat. As a later model, it features the enlarged and improved 235cc air-cooled 4-stroke single-cylinder engine. This motor hiked power to a heady 11hp and featured an overhead cam and pushrod valves.
Registered in Belgium and currently part of a classic bike collection, this Lodola is a smart and very original example.
