The Appeal
When Jaguar bought up Daimler in 1960, they weren't exactly passionate about the brand name. Truth be told, they'd purchased the company mostly to increase their manufacturing facilities and had completely neglected the marque's reputation for excellence. It was only when Stratstone Ltd started pressing for something new that the pipe-smoking bods at Jaguar HQ decided to get to work. Provided Stratstone dropped Volkswagen first, of course...
The new car was, to outside eyes, a re-badged Jaguar MK2, but with the lighter Daimler 2.5-Litre V8 under the bonnet and extensive modifications to match, it stood differently - some might say more distinguished - and had the usual lashings of elaborate chromework to set it apart. Nowadays, it's that little bit more exclusive than the car its bodywork was borrowed from, and makes for a particularly desirable, aspirational classic. True old-money luxury at its best.
This 1965 example has only had two registered keepers from new, and has been with the vendor for an impressive 20 years. Accompanied by an enormous paperwork file, It's a finely presented car of pure refinement, and is ready and waiting to be driven away by its lucky new owner.
