The Appeal
Bill Mitchell’s stunning racing Sting Ray was the obvious inspiration for the road-going second generation C2 Corvette. It was a brilliant move, single-handedly creating one of America’s greatest and most eye-catching sports cars.
The ‘66 Vette got light cosmetic changes, notably the switch to the ‘egg crate’ grille, and a serious hike in power thanks to the arrival of the Big Block 7L 427CI V8. This C2 is now fitted with that gargantuan motor, plus an engaging 5spd manual gearbox. It may not be matching numbers, but it is certainly more potent than any factory model.
This is a car designed to be used and enjoyed. The red paintwork is well kept, displaying a few marks, while inside there is a smart black interior with many original features. Neat details like the deep dish rally-style chromed wheels and side exit exhausts make this a seriously purposeful 60s classic.
