The Appeal

The BN4-generation Austin-Healey 100-6 marked the introduction of the 2+2 configuration and the smooth six-cylinder engine that would define the Big Healey's character through the 3000 era. Early Longbridge-built examples are particularly sought after, produced in very limited numbers before production transferred to Abingdon. This car is believed to be one of just 126 BN4s supplied new to the UK market in right-hand drive Home Market specification.

Chassis BN4-S/30229 has been in the care of one family since 1977 and retains its matching-numbers engine alongside its original Hertfordshire registration, 'YRO 4'. A bare-metal restoration in the early 1990s addressed the bodywork, and a mechanical rebuild followed in 2016, carried out by a specialist in Lancashire. The vendor states the car runs very well, starts readily hot or cold and maintains good oil pressure. The paintwork and interior show fair wear consistent with a car that has been regularly used and enjoyed rather than kept in static preservation.

Wow that’s amazing to hear. Had bumpers in the 70s when we bought it. Still scaring sheep though.

Oh yes, and in 1968/69 it was already without bumpers.

Well, I always wondered if I would see the 'YRO 4' again! I owned it circa 1968/69 when I lived in Netheredge, Sheffield. It was already Red and I have memories of spirited drives across the Peak District, never letting me down and scaring sheep and others in the process. Nice to see it again.
