The Appeal

We’re with those 60s getaway drivers - they preferred the 3.4L Mk2, ideally with manual overdrive gearbox, over the marginally more powerful 3.8L car because it had the more responsive, sweeter-revving motor. Not, we suspect, that they would have chosen this 3.4L MOD because its eye-catching Signal Red paintwork would likely have stood out too much as, of course, it’s meant to.

The paint finish is the result of an extensive restoration conducted in 2014. A number of upgrades have been fitted, including electronic ignition, a Hi-flow radiator with Kenlowe fans, and Spax adjustable suspension. The interior now features a set of cream leather seats, piped in red to match the exterior. They are taken from a X300 XJ saloon, including the centre console. It’s a clever switch that leans into the Mk2’s capabilities as a comfortable long-distance touring car.

We are told the straight-six engine was rebuilt 5,000 miles ago. The history file shows regular mechanical attention. Since the vendor acquired the car in 2022, it has covered less than 200 miles. It comes with the transparency of a lengthy voluntary MOT. A tidy and nicely improved example of these perennially popular saloons.
