The Appeal

For many E-Type enthusiasts, the 65-onwards Series 1 cars are the sweet spot of the model’s lengthy evolution. They retain the purity of the original but gain the larger, more powerful 4.2L engine and, crucially, the fully synchromesh 4spd manual gearbox to replace the ponderous Moss unit.

Alongside those improvements, certain colours accentuate the beauty of Malcolm Sayers’ flowing lines, as this Opalescent Blue metallic ‘66 FHC proves. It is a fabulous example, one that is said to be 98% original according to the seller, with rust-free panels, no filler reported and matching numbers. The car’s provenance supports that assertion - previously owned by Mr Collier of Collier Jaguar Florida and on display in the showroom. Sought out for his father in law Alfred Wallace at the time in his 90’s Alfred had been managing Editor for Marvel DC Comics UK in the 60’s/70’s and had always dreamt of owning an E Type.

The car arrived in the UK in 2016, and we’re told it was specifically sought out by the vendor for his father-in-law, a gentleman in his 90s who had always dreamed of owning an E-Type. That dream was duly fulfilled, and the car remained in his care until his passing.

In May 2026, the car was sent to specialist Custom Build Classics for checks and recommissioning. That £2,800 refresh included new chromework, full service, new E10-compatible fuel hoses, fresh fluids, filters and brakes. Its Florida life has clearly served the bodywork well. For those seeking a Series 1 E-Type with genuine integrity and a wonderful story behind it, this one merits close attention.

Whether Enzo Ferrari actually said what he’s endlessly reported to have said, there is surely no denying that this Opalescent Silver Blue E-Type is beautiful. That is, it is so well kept and in such good structural order, which definitely aids that impression.

Inside the tan leather cabin is pleasingly unmodified with some neat touches like the E-Type wood-rimmed wheel and period radio. The sympathetic recent recommissioning included some new chromework and a paint polish.
