The Appeal
In 1967 legislation in the E-Type main US market required Jaguar to introduce a few changes to its svelte sports car. Gathered together, these changes have become known as ‘Series 1.5’ cars. Just before they arrived Jaguar began phasing in the changes as the old parts dried up and the new ones arrived, resulting in the ultra-rare ‘transition’ or ‘Series 1.25 cars.’
Since parts were changed over at different times based on supply, each ‘Series 1.25’ car is different, but they can be identified from their VIN numbers and because they typically mix the raised front headlights of the Series 1.5 with the beloved ‘toggle’ dashboard of the earliest cars. All of which is a long-winded way of confirming that this beautiful Opalescent Grey metallic 1967 2+2 is one of those rare interim cars. Its chassis number confirms that too.
It was restored four years ago at a cost of £40,000, a process that involved acid-dipping and restoring the shell, including repaint and a full cabin retrim in gorgeous red leather. The engine has been rebuilt, as has the IRS, and the differential has been refurbished. The car has covered very few miles since completion.
The vendor is transparent about outstanding items: there is a dent and scratch on the driver's door and rear quarter from a garage door incident, the heated rear window is inoperative, main beam are not working, and a mist of oil has appeared at the bottom of the engine.
