1969 Porsche 911T 2.0

The Appeal

The 911T was Porsche's entry point to the 911 range in the late 1960s, yet it was far from a lesser car. Lighter than its S and E siblings and fitted with the same balanced flat-six architecture, the T offered a purity of driving experience that has made it one of the most coveted early 911 variants among enthusiasts today. Finding one that has been sympathetically restored and properly maintained is no small feat.
This matching numbers example spent the majority of its life in California, which has blessed it with what the vendor describes as "zero rust", a claim supported by a pre-purchase inspection carried out before the current owner acquired the car in 2021. Since then, approximately £17,000 has been invested in restoration work, with invoices to document the expenditure. The bodywork has been repainted in its rare original 6808 Burgundy, and the car has been converted back to European specification with correct headlights and lenses. Inside, the cabin has been completely retrimmed in Houndstooth Pepita, complemented by a new headliner, a correct dash with a period-appropriate mono speaker, and genuine Coco Mats. A discreet Bluetooth connector has been fitted to the original factory stereo without affecting its functionality. The car retains its original steering wheel, door buckets, dials and cluster, and its rare steel wheels, which lend it a period-correct appearance.
Mechanically, the 2.0-litre flat-six was rebuilt in the USA prior to the current owner's purchase, and the car has been serviced annually at Tower Porsche ever since. A carburettor rebuild, new fuel pump, and new batteries were all fitted last year. The vendor informs us that it starts every time, runs well, and that the five-speed gearbox is a delight.

Having only ever been stored in a dry underground garage and never driven in the wet, this 911T has clearly been well cared for, ready to meet its next custodian.

The vendor says:

"It’s an incredibly special car, very rare colour and in immaculate condition with everything working as it should. I’ve put a lot of love (and money) into making it as close to concours as possible, and now it’s time for someone else to enjoy it. This was always a long-term project I wanted to make beautiful again, and I must say it’s the best-looking Porsche I’ve ever seen. It’s not only a real head-turner but also an incredibly reliable car, and you have to see it in real life to truly appreciate its beauty. I will miss it!"

  • The vendor describes the car as being in "near-concours condition"
  • The vendor reports that everything works as it should
As much as we like a Fuchs alloy, isn't it lovely to see a '60s 911 on steel wheels?! The hubcaps and period-style tyres finish it off beautifully and sit beautifully against that rare 6808 Burgundy body colour. As the photographs attest, this is a very well-sorted and highly presented example of the model, in very good condition throughout.

The vendor says:

"It’s almost concours without any marks or scrapes and in incredible condition considering it’s 57 years old. There is absolutely zero rust on the car, and it is completely solid thanks to having spent most of its life in California and being treated with immaculate care. The car was recently professionally machine-polished, and the incredibly rare burgundy looks stunning in both sun and shade.

"[The interior is a] ...truly stunning combo with the burgundy and brand new houndstooth trim next to each other. Everything works, even the door lights when you open the door!
"

The Mechanics

  • 2.0-litre (1,991cc) air-cooled flat-six engine
  • Five-speed manual gearbox
  • Matching numbers
  • Engine rebuilt in the USA prior to the current owner's purchase
  • Carburettor rebuild, new fuel pump, and new batteries all fitted last year
  • Serviced annually at Tower Porsche during current ownership
  • The vendor reports the car starts every time and runs well
2.0-litre 911s are the purest expression of the formula. Every self-respecting petrolhead should experience one, and the great thing about Porsche's inimitable flat-six in this form is the fact that its performance is fully exploitable on the road. You can rev it out through the gears, without endangering your license, but this is still a quick car when driven with intent.

The vendor says:

"Serviced at Tower Porsche every year since I’ve had it, with it being tuned to perfection to run sweetly and starts every time. The engine was rebuilt in the USA, and only the carb rebuild and a new fuel pump have been done in the UK. The gearbox is a delight, and the car has never had any issues."
