The Appeal
The Citroën Méhari ranks among the most distinctive and endearing vehicles ever produced. This lightweight, open-top little car is built on the proven mechanics of the 2CV and stands out thanks to its bodywork composed of ABS plastic panels, naturally resistant to corrosion. With its air-cooled flat-twin engine and minimalist approach to motoring, it delivers a simple, authentic and particularly engaging driving experience.
This 1979 example has had only two registered owners since leaving the factory, with the current owner acquiring it in 1984. More than four decades of careful preservation in southern France have kept this Méhari in fine overall condition, especially as it is believed to have always been garaged.
The engine benefited from a full overhaul and seal replacement in October 2023. Significant mechanical work has also been undertaken, including replacement of the front dampers, pivot pins, a CV joint, a wheel bearing, the clutch kit, clutch cable and gearbox mounting.
Originally painted in Tibesti green, the bodywork was repainted in metallic blue in the early 1990s and presents in satisfactory condition today. The bonnet and entire hood have been replaced. Several practical improvements have also been made, including a battery isolator, electronic ignition and a modernised fuse box.
With its French classic vehicle registration and an MOT valid until October 2028, this Méhari is ready to take to the road and enjoy the sunshine, exactly as it was designed to do.image.png1.01 MB

✓ We also check whether vehicles are registered as written off as a result of a total loss claim at the time the listing is placed on Car & Classic and we provide write-off category markers (Cat C/D/S/N) to help you. The presence or absence of a marker does not, however, guarantee the vehicle's status and it is always worthwhile to carry out a full vehicle history check before making an offer on it.
