The Appeal

For the business of grand touring, little comes close to the V8 Volante. It's the sort of car in which one could breeze on down to the South of France, then on into Italy. Hand-built at Newport Pagnell, it married Tadek Marek's thunderous quad-cam V8 to a relaxed three-speed Torqueflite auto gearbox, ideal for long-distance, comfortable cruising at considerable pace.
This 1980 example is finished in the highly sought-after combination of Warwick blue coachwork over blue-piped magnolia leather upholstery, a pairing that perfectly suits the Volante's graceful lines. Its ownership history is notably stable, with one registered keeper retaining the car for 28 years before it was sold at auction in 2012.
In recent years, the car has benefited from substantial specialist attention totalling over £24,000, with major work carried out by Oselli in 2023 and further servicing by The Aston Barn in June 2026. Displaying 77,965 miles on the odometer, the vendor describes this Volante as presenting well and being in good mechanical health. With significant recent investment and a reassuring history, this is a compelling opportunity to acquire a well-maintained example of one of Aston Martin's most accomplished open-top models.

The Condition

  • Warwick blue coachwork with blue-piped magnolia leather upholstery

  • Interior and boot carpeting replaced in dark blue (piped blue) in 2023
  • Dash top and steering wheel re-trimmed in dark blue leather in 2023

The vendor describes the car as being in wonderful condition and well presented. Indeed, the photographs show it to present very well throughout, while the above list of recent works show a great deal of work to have been carried out. The car's folding hood is demonstrated in working order, while the fabric presents well, appearing to fit tightly. The re-connollised leather interior is a particular highlight, and the fact that the shell has received recent attention to rectify age-commensurate corrosion is reassuring to the new buyer.

The Mechanics

  • 5.3-litre Marek Aston Martin V8 engine
  • Three-speed Torqueflite automatic gearbox, serviced in 2023 with new filter, sump gasket, and rear seal
  • Front and rear shock absorbers, road springs, wishbone rubbers, clevis pins, spacers, and anti-roll bar links and rubbers replaced in 2023

  • Brake master cylinder overhauled, stripped, refinished, and rebuilt with new reseal kit in June 2026
  • New front and rear brake flexi hoses fitted and system bled with fresh fluid in June 2026
  • Radiator, top, bottom, and inter hoses, and coolant replaced in 2023

  • Fuel filter and air filters replaced in 2023
  • Rear exhaust system realigned in 2023
  • Axle oil replaced in 2023
  • Battery trickle charger and tyre inflator kit supplied with the car
The above list speaks volumes about the level of care this car has received. It has clearly been maintained to a good standard; it's the sort of car that has been set up to use as its maker intended, not merely trundle along to local shows. We hope to see this handsome GT gliding down the Continent's autoroutes with its new lucky owner at the helm.
