Every It's somewhat ironic that the best car ever produced by Rover was also its final ground-up design.
That car was the 75 and it was designed to replace both the 600 and the 800. It was also the first Rover to be designed, developed and built under BMW and was created with a much greater budget than the brands previous models thanks to an injection of cash from the German firm.
It was beautifully made, brilliantly styled and terrific to drive, without a doubt the companys finest achievement in modern times. The car was introduced at the 1998 British Motor Show at the NEC in Birmingham and was a real gem, powered by a choice of 2.0-litre or 2.5-litre Rover KV6 engines, a 1.8 litre K-Series four-cylinder or a BMW-derived diesel. All were terrific to drive, and were offered with a choice of upmarket trim options.
This one’s a really lovely car in a rare specification. Supplied new by Ames Motor Group of Bury St Edmunds, the Rover comes with the unusual specification of a five- speed manual gearbox and Personal Line Deep Sea Green leather interior, with matching carpets and steering wheel. It also has other high-end features such as an electric sunblind, ‘Meteor’ 16 inch alloy wheels and cruise control.
The car was owned by a Rover 75 enthusiast for many years and was part of a group of cars that convoyed to the Netherlands in 2018. The owner since retired from driving and the car stood on his driveway for four years, before being recommissioned by the vendor this summer. It's a lovely low mileage example in superb overall condition, which has never received a corrosion advisory for the MOTIMG_0680 Craig Cheetham.JPG3.6 MB
