The Appeal

Land Rover took the car in the direction of field and track, but Dutton went down an altogether more water-focused path. Different ideas, same drive to enjoy exploration the fun way. The clever Reef wasn’t a new concept, but it certainly modernised how you could get out on the water without having to tow a separate boat around.

Built on a Ford Fiesta donor, the Reef blends familiar road-car controls and mechanicals with a purpose-built fibreglass monocoque hull, so it can switch from tarmac to water—and back again—by pulling a jet clutch lever.

This particular example is among the last Reef models Dutton will ever produce, with the company confirming it will no longer build amphibious vehicles. Manufactured in 2021 and registered in early 2022, it’s logged just 15 hours on its hour meter since completion. It’s had only two owners since new—the current one since 2023.

Marine-grade components throughout—right from the AISI 316 stainless steel fittings to the triple-coated suspension and cast aluminium impeller—point to a build designed to handle the demands of two environments.
