Description

………………………. SORRY, RESERVED FOR MATT………………………
I’ve been lucky enough to have had a few of these rather special R100RT Classics over the last few years, and this one must surely be amongst the best.
As you probably know, these were effectively the run out model for the end of the Airhead range, and as such, they were fully loaded with factory options.
Originally supplied by BVM Moto, Stroud, to its first owner in 1995, the bike spent the first 26 years with him on the Isle of Man. In March of 2022, he sold it to his friend in Scotland, with the bike at that point having covered a very gentle 22k miles. It was given a thorough service and light recommission (the original owner was in his eighty’s and was riding the bike infrequently). This included new tyres, brake pads and lines, all oils, filters, plugs, etc.
The current owner, a good customer of mine, acquired the bike early in 2023, and has continued to maintain, service and ride it, with the odometer just going onto 32k miles. Not quite run in yet for a good Airhead !
So that’s a brief history of the bike, and how it’s ended up 31 years later, presenting as probably one of the best R100RT Classics available today. Mechanically, it’s spot on. Oil and charge lights extinguish as they should, and compressions are showing 135 even (cold). It fires up instantly from hot or cold, idles quietly, and rides as a good Boxer should. Cosmetically, the factory two tone grey paintwork is virtually unmarked, and the engine is super clean, and dry. A combination or high standard spec and added extras includes, colour coded luggage, factory topbox, crash bars, heated grips, hazard lights, auxiliary clock and voltmeter, power take off plug, new Hagon rear shock, stainless silencers, factory comfort seat, etc. The bike still retains its original comprehensive toolkit and first aid kid, factory wallet, and original BVM number plate.
Make no mistake, this is not your often well travelled RT, with commensurate wear and tear. I just hope that the bike goes to someone who will continue to ride and maintain it, rather than locking it away as a collectors item.
YOUR Airhead always considered in part exchange here at JTR Classic BMW, Washington, North East England, and flexible viewing days / times available. Personal inspections welcome and encouraged, but walk round videos available, also discounted courier delivery available to most of the UK.
