As the motorcycling generation that many of us belong to gets older, and begin to struggle with bigger / heavier machines, middleweight bikes such as these R65’s have become increasingly popular.
I have three of these bikes in stock at the moment. This one is the least expensive of the three, and at this price, a no risk introduction to the marque.
Registered in the UK to its first owner in August 1980, he owned the bike 11 years, up until August of 1991. After a brief spell with the next owner, the current keeper then owned the bike for an incredible 34 years. Always a good sign.
She’s not a “trailer queen”, or a Stafford show bike………. just a good, honest, classic old BMW that has been the owners pride and joy. Yes, there are signs of patina, with original paintwork rubs and dings, but she starts, stops and rides like one of these should. Make no mistake, these R65’s go and handle well, and with a little under 50bhp on tap in a package that weighs just over 200kgs, they will cruise at motorway speeds all day, and top 100mph (on an autobahn !). This particular bike also has the desirable twin discs up front, factory crashbars, and the obligatory set of touring panniers.
As well as having only two previous owners, the bike has only covered a genuine 29k miles from new, with fewer and fewer miles being covered every year by the last , mature owner. All in all, just an honest old bike, HPI clear, and of course Historic status, so MOT exempt, and free road tax.
