Striking yellow and tastefully modified, it’s time for this GT Junior to find a new home. Supplied new by Rardley Motors in the UK, the car was shipped to New Zealand in the 1970s and still has with it its original service book.
In recent years, whilst still living down under, the car underwent an extensive restoration and was fitted with many fast-road performance upgrades including a Centreline suspension upgrade and a hot 2. 0-litre Alfa Romeo Nord engine putting out 130bhp that is mated to a geabox rebuilt using new Quaife Alfaholics synchros. There are dozens of invoices with the car for the restoration/ modification totting up to over £40, 000.
The car weighs 875kg thanks in part to new aluminium body panels. It is a lightweight yet usable GT Junior in rust-free condition and sits pretty on its GTA-style wheels wrapped in new Bridgestone tyres. The interior has been refinished in Black using Classic Alfa's interior kit and new carpets have been fitted.
The build shows a great deal of restraint as it has been kept clean and simple. The owner at the time built the car with fast road use in mind as opposed to an outright track car. This GTJ is still comfortable and useable, not too hard nor loud, but great fun on the open road and would not be out of place at a track day.
Since being repatriated to the UK, its owner has enjoyed her for regular weekend use and took part in the Hope Classic Rally, a procession through the South Downs, in the car. She wants for nothing having been recently serviced by UK based Classic Alfa specialists K&L Auto.
It is not often I say this about modified classics, but there is nothing I would have done differently. It is the perfect concoction for many smiling miles, whether on road or on track. This stunning car now seeks a new home for a lot less than it would be possible to build another car the same for.
