1920 Vauxhall 30-98 ‘E’ Type
Since the inception of the VSCC, one of the stalwarts of this hallowed organisation has always been the Vauxhall 30-98. Deserving of its reputation as ‘The Finest of Sporting Cars’.
Just before the outbreak of The Great War, the Vauxhall 30-98 made its debut, however, manufacture was to be short-lived as War halted production.
In 1919 production was to resume with the 30-98 now being designated ‘E’ Type. To put the model into context, it was capable of 85 mph in touring trim – a most formidable performance indeed. Some 287 ‘E’ Types were built before production ceased in September 1922 and the ‘OE’ model was to appear the following year.
This motor car, chassis number E237 is one of the earliest 30-98s and was acquired by the current owner during 2013.
The subject of a comprehensive restoration between 1970 and 1991, it was recommissioned by John Kent, the well-known Australian 30-98 guru - ready for the Centenary Vauxhall Tour of Victoria and Tasmania. Over 2, 200 miles were covered on the tour with no problems.
With polished aluminium ‘Velox’ coachwork and navy-blue wings, this powerful and purposeful Vintage motor car, is truly worthy of its revered status.
The wheels have been rebuilt and the yres have been renewed and the hood and tonneau cover are in good serviceable order.
