Sunbeam Talbot Mk3 – Very Original with Matching Nos
Introduced in 1954 the Mk III received a number of improvements including the Alpine specification 80bhp engine giving a top speed in excess of 90mph, larger intake grills and portholes in the side of the front wings. The ‘90’ with overdrive proved to be an exceptional competition car with drivers such as Sterling Moss at the wheel and most notably won the 1955 Monte Carlo Rally outright with Per Malling & Gunnar Fadum.
Our early Mk III (same year as Monte win) is an utterly original, matching numbers example. The black bodywork is very nice with a real lustre to the paint and only the odd mark commensurate with age. The black body is complemented by original red leather seats/ door cards, original headlining and replacement carpet set – there is a genuine patina that simply cannot be matched by restored cars
On the road the Sunbeam drives extremely well and the overdrive enables the car to cope admirably with modern road conditions – it is easy to understand why it was such a successful rally entrant back in the 1950’s. The car retains its original tool kit in the boot lid, a history file containing old MOTs back to 1971, invoices back to 1978, original Drivers Handbook and rare Workshop Manual.
We have been genuinely impressed with how competently the car performs. These Sunbeams represent one of the first executive sports saloons produced and offer the perfect choice for the owner looking for an engaging drive. This Mk III is in remarkable condition and offers style, performance & comfort.
These sporting saloons always sell well and are a perfect choice for the Goodwood Revival, holiday road trip or simply drives out to a country pub with family and friends. We expect her to find an appreciative new keeper quickly……
