Description
The Jaguar XJ-S was launched in 1975 and was renamed “XJS” in 1991 when it was face-lifted with larger rear side windows, new rear end styling and the new 4. 0 version of the AJ16 was fitted for the six cylinder models.
This car is a 1992 phase 1 facelift XJS facelift in Brooklands Green with Doeskin leather trim. It has covered a correct 103k miles from new. It has a full history to 98k miles in 2001 when it was put into dry storage for 14 years. In 2014 it was sold to its last owner who re-commissioned it with new front shocks, steering rack, brake overhaul, ATF fluid and filter and engine service. It has just been fitted with a new battery, distributor cap and leads. We sold this car in March to a regular customer who has just sold it back to us due to a change in circumstances.
The upper body is in excellent rust free order with an absence of scabs and blisters and the underside is in rock solid original condition and as far as we can see it has never been welded or repaired.
The interior trim is in good order and a new head-lining has recently been fitted.
The engine brakes suspension and automatic transmission are also in fine condition and it drives beautifully.
There are however, one or two improvements required, mainly cosmetic including a couple of small areas of lacquer peel and two alloys that could do with re-finising. Although this XJS is ready to use, a couple of weekends work and a few hundred in expenditure will only add to its value.
There are plenty of XJS cars in the market but we regularly see cars at two or three times the price of this one that have been butchered with poor quality repairs to the body. Although prices are steadily rising, restoration costs are still far greater than values so finding a solid one is important. This one offers superb value.
MOT until December 2018.
