Description
The Fiat Abarth 124 Rally is a road legal version of the competition car used in rallying, also known as «124 Abarth Stradale», introduced in November 1972. The main objective of this model was the FIA Gr. 4 homologation, and to replace the «Sport Spider» rally car equipped with the 1, 600cc engine. At the time, the «124 Sport Spider» had already won the 1972 European Rally Championship by the hands of Raffaele Pinto and Gino Macaluso. The first 500 copies of the «124 Rally» were exclusively destined for the Italian domestic market.·
Among the most relevant modifications, compared to the common Spider, the Rally had independent rear suspension, an improved engine, ultra-lightweight body panels, bonnet, trunk lid and hardtop folded in fiberglass, four point rollbar in the rear section and 13″5, 5J Cromodora alloy wheels. The bumpers were replaced by rubber stoppers in order to reduce the weight to a maximum of 938 kg, 25 kg less than a normal Spider 1800.
Inside the center console, rear seats and glove compartment lid were eliminated, new elements were added in anodized aluminum, a three-spoke steering wheel with leather cover and Recaro seats in velvet and leather.
The «124 Rally» uses «Fiat» emblems on the front and rear, Abarth emblems and «Fiat Abarth» lettering on the front wings and was only available in three colors: Red – «Rosso Vivo», white – «Bianco» and «« Azzurro Chiaro.
This specimen is in good general condition.
